CHAMPIONS

A frustrating draw away to Gillingham put the party on hold, but back to back wins against Southend and Scarborough meant that promotion, and then the title, was secured on home turf.

The celebrations continued into the next week, when Cooper and the squad were officially crowned as the winners of the old fourth division, and paraded the trophy it in front of 7,544 jubilant fans at St James Park.

England may have ended up going all the way to the World Cup semi-finals later that summer, but 1990 would always belong to our Champions!
