Biographical Text

Powell was playing as an amateur for his home town club, Chester, when he turned professional, signing for Cardiff City in September 1947. However, he didn't make a first team breakthrough.

He signed for Exeter City in June 1948, having been recommended to the Grecians by former City player George Wardle. Swindon Town, Watford and Torquay United had all expressed an interest in the player.

Powell made his debut for Exeter at Reading in March 1949, going on to feature in 9 league matches, scoring one goal that season.

He started off in the side the following season, and added a further 13 league outings.

He moved to Bristol Rovers in July 1951, but only played four league games for them, and 12 months later signed for Wellington Town.

Ken died on the 17th January 2005.
