HAT TRICK BY PYM IN DEVON DERBY.
SATURDAY AUGUST 18TH:
EXETER CITY 0 TORQUAY UNITED 3.
A hat-trick by Pym gave Torquay United a 3-0 win over Exeter City in the Devon Derby at St James's Park on the first day of the 1962-63 soccer season. There was a gate of nearly 10,000.
Exeter City:- Tinsley; Johnston and MacDonald; Mitchell, Anderson, and Hughes; Carter, Sells, Pierce, Welsh, and Jenkins.
Torquay United:- Adlington; Rossiter and Allen; Cox, Bettany, and Hancock; Astall, Webb, Northcott, Jenkins, and Pym.
Referee:- Mr E.T.Jennings of Stourbridge. Linesmen:- Messrs W.Drummond and J.W.Jones.
This was a very good opening "gate" for the City. The question is, how many will come back on Wednesday to watch Mansfield? Probably most of them, for while the City lost it was nevertheless a highly entertaining game. Exeter's four new men fitted in fairly well, with Barry Pierce' first-half performance putting him just about at the top of the list. The new style approach work was effective, and it just needs to be backed up with a little more finishing punch.

AT ANDOVER.
Exeter City winning the toss started with strong sunshine behind them in the first half. Rutley put Southcombe through but Morris ran out to intercept the ball.
Andover:- Morris; Voysey and Good; Heagren, Stevens, and Davidson; Allen, Collett, Henderson, Ambrose, and Case.
City Reserves:- Clark; Smyth and Davis; Brown, Sanders, and Grace; McMillan, Rees, Southcombe, Rutley, and McMeechan.
Exeter were on top for most of the game and Rees scored after 20 minutes with a well placed shot well out of Morris's reach.
