Biographical Text

Having scored a promising number of goals for Southport, Barrow and Accrington, Jacob Parsons played just three times for Exeter City in 1930/ 1931. He later appeared for Thames, Mansfield and Rotherham.

Jacob Parsons played for his local club Whitehaven Athletic, in the Cumberland League, scoring 60 plus goals in just 32 games, setting a new goalscoring record for the competition. Southport signed him in 1927 and in 28 matches he netted a further 36 goals, including six in one match against Wigan Borough.
Parsons moved to Barrow in February 1928, and then moved on to Accrington Stanley a year later.

Exeter City had high hopes of the player when they signed him in the summer of 1930. However, things never worked out for him at St James’ Park and he only played three league matches, the first of which was against Bristol Rovers in September 1930.

He left the Grecians in the summer of 1931 and signed for Thames FC where he played in four Third Division South fixtures. He played for Mansfield Town in 1932-33 adding a further two league outings, and then Rotherham United in 1933-34 where he appeared in five league matches.

Jacob died on the 23rd December 1953.
