Sunday 20th February

South West Women's Football League Premier Division

Exeter City Ladies 2 - Bath City 1

Exeter City Ladies moved out of the South West Women's Premier Division relegation zone with a 2-1 win over bottom club Bath City. The Grecians took control of the game early on. Stephanie Matthews, Stacey Pearson and Emma Redwood all saw efforts rebound off the post before City finally took the lead on 35 minutes. Matthews broke down the left and the Bath City keeper could only parry her shot as far as Goldsworthy, who buried the rebound.

Goldsworthy added a second in spectacular style on the stroke of half-time, passing her markers with ease before drilling a fine shot into the far bottom corner of the net. Bath pulled a goal back after the break when City were down to 10 players, with 15-year-old Naomi Wilkins receiving treatment for an ankle injury. Rachel Edwards went close to adding a third for the Grecians, as did Goldsworthy who hit the bar, and City held on to record their fifth win of the season and move three points clear of relegation rivals Penzance.

Manager Steve Mclear said: "This was a very important game for us, that we had to get three points from. I had concerns before the game as we are missing crucial players at present mainly through injury, however the team adapted well to players being played out of position.

'We didn't perform as well as we could of. I think players were a little nervous but we got the reusit we wanted.'
