Biographical Text

Jim Murray, who was with Glasgow side Shawfield before the war, played a single Football League match for Exeter City in 1946/47 after featuring regularly in the interim ‘wartime’ competitions the previous season. 

Jim had played for Glasgow side Shawfield Juniors prior to the Second World War whilst working as a compositor. He then joined the Royal Marines and was signed by Exeter City in August 1945 whilst stationed locally having impressed in a pre-season practice match.

Jim featured in 25 of the Division Three South of the Thames League and Cup matches in 1945/46 although, remaining at the club when 'normal' football resumed in 1946/47, only played one Football League Third Division South fixture for the Grecians when lining up against Bristol City at St James’ Park in September 1946.

Jim Murray died in 1998.
