Match 08
26th November 2017
Torquay United (Away)

Torquay United Ladies came up against their Exeter City counterparts for the second time in a row on Sunday. They came away with another victory, this time winning 1-0.

Exeter are a young team who break quickly on their opponents and play some clever football. Skipper Danni Skinner and winger Hope Suonimen caused all sorts of problems for TULFC going forward. The back four and ‘keeper Marshall were in fine form.

Former TULFC player Jana Richards was trying to latch on to the end of long balls over the top but Becca Wakley and Adele Rogers were quicker to the ball. Sian Chapman, Steph Beck and Sarah Smith were causing all sorts of problems with their quick feet and pace. Smith was a constant threat down the left hand side, and Daisy Self battled hard in midfield and made plenty of challenges. Georgia Mann started again at right-back and her delivery and accuracy into the box was causing the City defence all sorts of problems.

In the second half, Alex Sheppard was brought into play which saw Emma Mingo push forward to support Chapman up front. Her tenacity and work rate was to pay off. A clever shot from distance by Mingo saw Exeter City ‘keeper Watts back pedal but she managed to tip it just over the bar. Some heroic defending from city centre back, Amber Guy Kemp, denied Daisy Self from close range.

Danni Wyatt replaced Mingo, and her trickery on the ball caused all sorts of problems for Exeter. Wyatt was involved in the break through goal in the 84th minute. She pulled a clever ball back to Smith to deliver into the box. Beck was on hand to slot the ball past the advancing keeper to the delight of the team and fans.

Sunday’s  game was a real test. Exeter are incredibly talented and the management have really started to create something special. There are some stand out players, but collectively they are a threat.
