Biographical Text

James Maxsted was signed by Exeter City on Southern League forms in 1910, whilst serving locally at Topsham Bararcks as a Gunner with the Royal Artillery.

He played once for the Grecians first team, in a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Portsmouth in November 1910.

Maxsted had played a large number of games for the City reserves and made a sensational debut earlier that month by netting a hat-trick against St Austell in a Plymouth & District League fixture.
He also scored a hatrick against the Royal Marines in a Friendly that City won 7-0 in December 1910.
