Match 09
24th October 1982
Newport (away)

Unbeaten tag test

Exeter Ladies FC choose from a full squad for their Women's Western League trip to Newport tomorrow. Exeter are still unbeaten at the top of the league but need two points from tomor- row's game to stay there. They have also been drawn against Newport in the second round of the WFA Cup at home in a fort- night so their league clash should provide a good guideline for that important tie.

Exeter: (from) B. Frayne, M. Bowen, J. Tancock, T. Lake, F. Crispin, D. Turner, J. Costello, S. Trace, M. Langman, M. Mallett, A. Hesketh, B. Thomas, JTrott, P. Wilson, SYelland.
LEAGUE MATCH REPORT

NEWPORT I EXETER 4

Exeter travelled to Newport with a full squad to choose from, this paid dividends for us because, although Jackie was carried off injured the availability of all our players enabled us to keep the team strong throughout the game. Both teams played well under very difficult conditions, the pitch being well on the way to being waterlogged. Exeter, with the lag of still being unbeaten in the League this season, looked the more settled side, and even though the conditions were bad managed to put some good foot- ball together, trying a new format. Newport fought hard and applied most of the first half pressure, the only difference from the sides being that Exeter put away their chances and Newport didn't.

  • Goals came form Annie 2, Mandy Langman 1, and Bridget 1.

Match Report 2

EXETER Ladies FC stay top of the Women's Western Football League after a 4-1 win at Newport yesterday. The game was played in atrocious conditions on a pitch ankle deep in mud. Exeter adapted best, particularly in the first half. Annie Hesketh scored in each half and Mandy Langman and substitute Bridget Thomas also found the net for Exeter.

That win gives them a good lift for their Women's FA Cup second round match at home to Newport in a fortnight
