Match 29
22nd May 1983
League Cup Final
Frome at Tunley.

Ladies carry off the League Cup

EXETER LADIES' FC capped a fine season yesterday by winning the Women's Western League Cup. They beat Frome 5-1 in the final at Tunley, near Bath.

Exeter went ahead with a neat header from Julie Trott in a scrappy first half but Frome levelled the scores just before half time.

Exeter never looked in danger of losing the match and the tide really turned their way when leading Scorer Annie Hesketh put them ahead once more from the penalty spot for her 52nd goal of the season. Frome were under constant pressure from then on as Exeter mounted attack after attack in relaxed style. Julie Costello, a driving force in midfield, scored two fine goals and there was one more for Julie Trott. After the match Exeter also received the trophy as runners-up in the Women's Western League. They were pipped to the championship by a single point by Cardiff, despite scoring twice as many goals as the Welsh side.
