Biographical Text

Marcus Martin, from Plymouth Argyle, spent 2004/05 on loan at Exeter City during which time he appeared against Manchester United in the FA Cup. He later played in the Truro City team that won the FA Vase.

Marcus, from the Torbay area, signed a professional deal with Plymouth Argyle at the start of the 2004-05 season and was immediately loaned to Exeter City - then in the Conference - making his debut for the Grecians at Northwich Victoria in August 2004.

He was never a regular and, by the start of January 2005, had only appeared in a dozen league games (scoring once against Crawley Town in September). However, after playing in City’s New Year game against Hereford, Marcus found himself in the starting line-up for the FA Cup game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 8 January 2005 also making a late substitute appearance in the replay eleven days later.

Thereafter Marcus only made a further seven appearances for Exeter with his final game, away at Crawley on 16 April, ending with a sending off. Returning to Home Park Marcus was unable to make a breakthrough and, without a first-team appearance to his name, he eventually signed for Truro City in January 2006.

At Treyew Road Marcus became an important part of the Truro team that won the FA Vase at Wembley in 2007 and continued to climb the leagues. Upon finishing at Truro Marcus moved into the SW Peninsula League before, when playing for St Austell in 2016, he reportedly assaulted a referee and was subsequently banned for twenty-seven months.
