John Lee was born in 1888

Lee was signed by Exeter City for the start of the 1913-14 season and went straight into the first team to make his debut against Southampton at The Dell in a Southern League fixture.

He featured in six of the opening seven matches for the Grecians, scoring his only goal for the club in a 1-0 win at Watford, but after playing in one further match, he wasn’t to feature again in the first team.

Prior to joining Exeter, Lee had played for his local club, Morpeth, then signing for Clapton Orient, where he scored once in 20 Football League matches, then moving to St James’ Park.

He served in the First World War as a Private.
