Exeter City took a valauable away point from their long trip to Barropw who were seeking toi win their first home game of the season. It also pleased the lone Exeter supporter who had travelled through the night to be at Holker Street (ME !), Barrow looked dangerous in the early stages and took the lead after only four minutes, John Newman's back pass was not strong enough and Svarc nipped in to beat Bob Wilson with a splendid shot on the volley, After this early setback City began to play their way back into the game, Alan Banks headed over an open goal in the 25th ainute, but 10 minutes later Exeter scored when Joe Gadston pounced onto a Storf pass to beat DandoThe City were under considerable pressure after the inerval as Barrow pinned down Exeter in their own half. Wilson twice came to City's rescue saving from Svarc and McGarry.. Barrow want desparately close on several occasions as City hung onExeter, relied on isolated breakaways, mainly from Barry Rowan, but he lacked support, Campbell Crawford put in one good shot but It was blocked by Morrin, City were lucky when a Svarc header struck a post and rebounded to safety. But perhaps they were fortunate to survive and pick up a point from the game.

Match Summary 

Exeter were one down at Barrow in the fifth minute. Six minutes later Exeter's keeper Wilson touched a 30- yard drive from Hollis just over the bar. Exeter were unlucky when Johnny Corr (photo) headed over the bar. Exeter's equaliser came when centre-forward Gadston hooked a ball into the corner of the net.
Half-time: Barrow 1-1 Exeter.
Barrow had at least half a dozen chances of restoring their lead in opening minutes of second half. Exeter goal- keeper Wilson made fine saves from Hartland and Irvine to keep his side on level teerms, but many other chances were were wasted by Barrow

Result: Barrow 1, Exeter 1.


CITY RELISH MIDWEEK NIGHT LIGHTS.

On the night of 18th September 1968, Exeter City were beaten 3-2 by Bradford CityExeter have not lost a midweek evening game, not including friendlies, at St James' Park since then, their record since that night reads, played 16, won 15, drawn 3. The three draws were against Northampton Town 0-0 in an FA, Cup replay, Chesterfield 1-1 in Division Four last season, and 0-0 against Swansea Town in the Football League Cup this season.

As from the next St Lukes College Western League match at St James' Park on 28th November, admission to those games will be to the grandstand only, Charges will be 3s for adults and is 6d for children, Exeter City secretary Ian Tarr said that the idea was to cut down the work and costs needed to stage a St Lukes College game,

Club Accounts 
CITY GATE SLUMP BOOSTS DEFICIT.

Exeter City Football Club had a net loss of £8,164 last year, compared with a profit of £7,920 the previous year. There was a big drop in revenue from the home gates and transfer fees went up. The Club's total deficit is now £50,515. These figures are given in the directors report which will be presented at the annual meeting of the Exeter City Football And Athletic Company Ltd at St James' Park.
