Match 08
11th September 2011
Weymouth LFC (A)

Exeter City Ladies FC 4
Weymouth FC 1

City travelled to Weymouth for their fifth league match of the season last Sunday. There was just one change to the previous match with Mandy Earle- (photo) replacing an injured Naomi Wilkins at centre half.

In blustery conditions, City found themselves a goal down at half time when the defence failed to stop the Weymouth striker making a run down the middle. City started the second half as they should have started the first, on the front foot. Helen Kukor and Kirsty Caunter applied pressure to the Weymouth defence who gifted City an equaliser, fumbling the ball into their own net. This was the boost that City needed and a second goal followed moments later when Kukor's cross from the right was tapped in by striker Lola Sanchez.

It was Kukor's cross that to City's third. Sanchez's header was parried by the Weymouth keeper into the path of oncoming left winger Natalie Shenton, who headed it home. Three changes were made shortly after with Emma Redwood replacing an injured Meg Griffiths at right back, Alex Spencer replacing Mandy Earle and Carla Staddon replacing Helen Kukor on the right wing. The final goal came just before the final whistle. City's keeper Maxine Coupe was forced to head clear a ball over the top from the Weymouth defence, just outside her area. Her clearance found left back Tamsin Braund who took the ball down the line and slotted it through to centre midfielder Catherine Wright. Her pass found striker Sanchez who slotted the ball cleanly into the net, having taken it around the Weymouth keeper.

  • City remain at the top of the table, undefeated in their league campaign and will face Marine Academy Plymouth at Topsham Town FC on Sunday 18th September. Kick off is at 2pm.
