Match 10
25th September 2011
Salisbury City LFC (a)

Exeter City Ladies FC 2
Salisbury City Ladies FC 0

City travelled to Salisbury, deemed to be one of their toughest rivals in the South West Women's League Premier Division. Assistant Manager Chad Gribble filled in for Manager Steve Tully, who could not make the trip due to illness.

The match was a battle from the outset, with neither team able to break the deadlock by half time. City had looked the stronger team in the first half, but the Salisbury defence stood firm.

Shortly into the second half, left winger Natalie Shenton's short corner found midfielder Catherine Wright and her shot from just outside the box eluded two defenders and the keeper to open the scoring in City's favour.

The Grecians were awarded a free kick in the final Salisbury third moments later, when the defender brought down Shenton with a tackle from behind and centre half Naomi Wilkins' effort hit the crossbar.

Again City applied the pressure with Kirsty Caunter's shot being forced wide. Exeter were gifted a penalty with twenty minutes remaining after striker Lola Garcia Sanchez was brought down in the box. Wilkins' was deadly from the spot to take her tally to three goals from three penalties so far this season. This result keeps Exeter at the top of the league, continuing their unbeaten campaign!

  • City have no fixture this Sunday. Their next match is away to Oldland Abbotonians on Sunday 9th October.
