FA Cup Second Round Qualifier:

Morley Rangers 0
Exeter City Ladies FC 9

With Marine Academy Plymouth pulling out of the first round, City headed to Morley Rangers in Plymstock for their FA Cup Second Round Qualifying match. The Grecians found themselves the favourites for this game, being a league higher than their opposition.

The away side started by far the stronger of the two teams, with left winger Natalie Shenton putting Emma Redwood's first cross of the game into the back of the net to opening the scoring.

Striker Lola Sanchez added not just one but three goals in quick succession to put City 4-0 ahead on the 15 minute mark!

With City constantly applying the pressure, a further three goals followed before the half time whistle from Kirsty Caunter, another from Sanchez and right winger Helen Kukor.

Steve Tully made the decision to rest several of his players for the second half bringing on Carla Staddon, Alex Spencer and Marika Ghiglia to replace Caunter, Josie Copp and Sanchez.

The team reorganised, with Shenton moving into the centre forward position. A lay off from Ghiglia allowed Shenton to produce the goal of the game soon after, scoring with a volley from 20 yards out.
Kukor added her second and City's final goal to the score sheet in the closing minutes of the match, taking the ball down the right before cutting inside and slotting it into the net.

  • City's win means that they will play host to Keynesham Town Development in the third qualifying round at St James' Park on Sunday 13th November, at 1pm. This promises to be a tough game for City, having been knocked out of the FA Cup by this team last season.
