Westward Developments Devon Women's League Cup

Exeter COE manager Steve McClear was lost for words after watching his side come back from the brink of defeat to beat Roborough 6-3 in extra time in the Devon Women's League Cup. Exeter went 1-0 down after 25 minutes when a mix-up in defence let a Roborough striker through to score - and they conceded a second moments later. But in first half stoppage-time Lola Sanchez popped up in the box to pull one back. Nine minutes into the second half Sanchez grabbed her second, a deflected shot from inside the area,to make it 2-2.

In extra time Gabby Stoneman (photo) scored from a narrow angle to put Exeter 3- 2 ahead. Kelly Hall made it 4-2 with a close range effort before Roborough pulled one back. Sanchez completed her hat-trick in the second half of extra time and then claimed her fourth goal with a fine solo effort.

"It was a fantastic cup tie," McClear said. "To come back from 2-0 down against a Premier Division side was fantastic and shows the character and resolve of the side - was lost for words. They all gave 100 per cent and even at 2-0 down there was no way they were going to lose."
