Biographical Text

Tom Carroll, who signed for Exeter City in July 2023, started his career at Tottenham Hotspur before playing for Swansea City, Queens Park Rangers and Ipswich Town. He joined the Grecians at the age of thirty-one after a spell out of football. 

He commenced his career as a scholar/trainee at Tottenham Hotspur in 2008. Subsequently signing professional in 2010 he played 27 league games (plus appearances in domestic cups and European games) for the club over the next seven years with loan spells at Leyton Orient, Derby County, Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City. Whilst with Spurs he represented England at under-19 and under-21 level.

Joining Swansea City permanently in 2017 he made 85 league and cup appearances in three seasons at the Liberty Stadium to add to the 18 games he had already played during his earlier loan spell. After a short-lived loan to Aston Villa during the early part of 2019, he left South Wales to move to Queens Park Rangers in 2020 before signing for Ipswich Town in 2021.

Arriving at Portman Road on a one-year deal he was released after appearing in just 17 games and, after not featuring in professional Football during 2022/23 following a number of injury-interrupted seasons, arrived at Exeter City on trial aged thirty-one before agreeing a one year deal in July 2023.

Tom was one of eight players to make his Grecians’ debut in the win at Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the 2023/24 season and, after featuring reguarly during the season, scored his first goal for the club (and his first goal in all football since scoring for Swansea in April 2017) in the game at Peterborough United on 2 March 2024. With 45 league and cup appearances during the season, it was the most football Tom had played since his Swansea City days in 2017/18.
