Biographical Text

Jones played a good deal of junior football in his early days. He assisted Faircroft Main in the Rotherham Junior league, then Firbeck Main for two seasons in the Sheffield Association League.

After that he played for Carlton in Lindrick Colliery and was signed by Manchester City in 1929.

Although he never made the senior side, Exeter City brought him to Devon in the summer of 1930.

He got his Football League chance when regular keeper, Arthur Davies, was injured, thus making his debut against Southend United in October 1930.

Jones only played four further league matches for the Grecians, and had signed for Yeovil & Petters United in time for the 1932-33 season.
