Defender Zak Jules, then aged 26, joined Exeter City from Milton Keynes Dons in July 2023 for an 'undisclosed fee'. Starting his career with Reading, and playing for various clubs on loan, he had previously been on permanent contracts with Shrewsbury Town, Macclesfield Town and Walsall.Born in North London he became a scholar/trainee at Reading in 2013 and remained at the club until 2017 having had loan spells at Hemel Hempstead Town, Braintree Town and Motherwell. Switching to Shrewsbury Town after leaving Reading, he was lent to Chesterfield, Port Vale and Barnet ahead of signing a permanent deal with Macclesfield in January 2019. After just a few months with the Cheshire club he was at Walsall between July 2019 and February 2021. He was then sold to Milton Keynes Dons where, after a loan to Fleetwood during 2021/22, he remained until his eve-of-season transfer to Exeter City for an undisclosed fee.With appearances for Scotland at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels along the way, he had started 117 Football League games prior to signing for the Grecians with other appearances as substitute and games in the Scottish League and National League earlier in his career. He started 27 league games during his final season with MK Dons. 

He was one of eight players to make his Grecians’ debut in the win at Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the 2023/24 season. Featuring regularly thereafter Zak scored his first goal for the club in the 3-2 defeat at Reading on 1 January 2024 before adding another in the win at Port Vale towards the end of the season. Appearing in 47 competitive fixtures during his first term at St James' Park, Zak made 39 league starts as City comfortably finished in the middle of League One.
