Clark, an outside left, played in trial matches for City at the start of the 1907-8 season. In a reserve game against Exmouth The Football Express said Corporal Clark 'was especially good and well deserves his place in the first team'. He subsequently was picked in a first team friendly v 15th Brigade when he played as Sergeant Clark. The report notes that 'his promotion from Corporal has been notified during the past week'. His form won him a place in City's first team making his debut in the 7-2 Plymouth and District League victory at home to Tavistock on 5 October 1907. Clark went on to play a total of 7 first team League matches - his last one away at St Michael's on 23 November. A Football Express reports hints at the end of his City career saying "Sgt Clark while excellent one week is apt to drop below his real form in the next match".
