ECFC Timeline | 1914-18
After the outbreak of war, football continued to be played at St James Park until 1915. The ground was then loaned to the military. Charity matches were also held to raise money for the war effort and to boost morale. 13 former Exeter City players are known to have died in the conflict. They are commemorated in the club’s Garden of Remembrance outside the main stand.
