In his debut season in charge of the club, Paul Tisdale led Exeter to Wembley Stadium for the first time. Having defeated Oxford United in a thrilling play-off semi final, Exeter were favourites to beat Morecambe in the final. However, despite an opening goal from Lee Phillips and a penalty save by Paul Jones, the Grecians were ultimately defeated 2-1 in front of 30,000 City fans.
