Southern League
Luton Reserves (h)

Luton Town 6-0 ECFC
Attendance: 8000

Saturday, April 7th,
at Ivy Road, Luton.

LUTON TOWN 6 EXETER CITY 0.

Last Season: Luton 4 City 0.

The Grecians left Exeter yesterday afternoon, stopping over night in London, and completing the journey to Strawopolis just before two o'clock this afternoon.

Disappointment was expressed in the match programme at the absence of Alan Mathieson, who, through being left out of Exeter City's eleven today, had missed both matches against his former club. Coopland moved to right half and Shelton partnered Dockray at inside-left.
The weather was dull after a fine morning, and the field was in fine condition. The ground accommodation has been greatly added to by the erection of a spacious new grandstand.

Luton were first on the field, and met with a hearty reception in recognition of their recent victories. The Grecians followed on their heels, and Crompton won the toss, Exeter having the breeze behind them in the opening half.

Crompton was penalised for pushing Butcher, and following the free kick Hoar swept the ball into the penalty area, where Mitton miskicked and Pavey had to save. Luton maintained the pressure, their manipulation of the lively ball being too much for Exeter's defenders. Clarkson lobbed over a dangerous centre to Roe, who put in a shot from an acute angle. Pavey got his hands to the ball, and seemed able to clear, but it entered the net just inside the far post. It was Roe's first goal in League football, and he was warmly congratulated.

Luton's left wing was very thrustful, and gave Pollard a good deal of anxiety, especially as Coopland was none too sure at this stage. Luton increased their lead through Hoten, who went through on his own and scored with ease with Exeter appealing for offside. From a brief raid at the other end Mitton shaved the crossbar with a good shot, but a minute before half-time Butcher scored Luton's third goal.

Second Half.

The Exeter defence was no match for the speedy and thrust ful Luton inside forwards, and after four minutes Hoten scored again for Luton. Midway through the half Hoten took over a perfect pass, and rounding Pollard skilfully directed the ball into the City's net, Pavey having no chance with his well placed kick. Two minutes from the finish Luton's left wing forwards got through again, and with Pavey unable to clear Butcher was left with the simple task of running the ball over the line for the sixth goal, Exeter thus meeting with their second 6-nil defeat of the season.

CITY RESERVES v LUTON TOWN RESERVES.

Many of the Reserve team following had begun to despair of the possibility of another win being recorded in the City's favour in the present season, but on Wednesday two much needed points were secured at the expense of Southend, and new hope was inspired. A trial was given at centre-forward to Jack Radford, of Friernhay.

City Reserves:- Fryer; Southway and Ackroyd; Richards, Duke, and Wilson; Newman, Camble, Radford, Mathieson, and Parsons.

Luton Reserves:- Bailey; Stephenson, and Foster; Newman, Walker, and Millar; Reader, Thompson, Brown, Irvine, and Woodcroft.

The nearest scoring attempt in the first half came two minutes before the interval, when Irvine, with a clever overhead kick, put the ball about eighteen inches over the crossbar. Mathieson had amused the crowd with his repertroire of tricks with the ball, but it came to nothing, and the play of Richards, a strong half-back, was of greater value to the team. Midway through the second half Brown scored for Luton, the ball going between Fryer's legs.

The result was, therefore,
City Reserves nil, Luton Reserves 1.
