Saturday, February 29th 1936.
CARDIFF CITY 5 EXETER CITY 2.

Beaten again this afternoon, Exeter City collapsed in amazing fashion against Cardiff City at Ninian Park, and after being level (1-1) at the interval they were eventually defeated by five goals to two.

Cardiff:- Leckie; Granville, Everest; Roper, Godfrey, Smith; Pugh, Keating, D.Williams, Lewis, Diamond.

Exeter:- Kirk; Gray, Miller; Clarke, Robinson, Angus; Hurst, T.Scott, McCambridge, McLean, J.Scott.

Lewis scored for Cardiff after twelve minutes, but the goal was disallowed on the grounds that Lewis had fouled Kirk. Fifteen minutes before the interval Lewis scored a legitimate goal for Cardiff, and T.Scott equalised. Although McLean tried his hardest to rally the Grecians in the second half it was all to no avail. The defence was overrun, with Pugh playing a brilliant game for Cardiff on the right wing, and goals were scored by Pugh, Smith, Diamond, and Williams in that order. McCambridge got a goal for Exeter in the last minute following J.Scott's corner kick.

League XI:- Trott; Murphy, French; Miller, Davis, Tappin; Southcombe, Backhouse, Bluck, Leaman, Chambers.

McArthur and Pope then scored for the City Reserves, and in the last minute before the interval Southcombe centred to Bluck, who beat Johns with a well directed header. In the second half Leaman scored for the League, and Jarrett for the Reserves, who won by four goals to two.
  • MERRIE NOT RETAINED. Alex Merrie, who was engaged on two months' trial by the City, has not been offered terms. He has now signed for Workington, the North Eastern League club which recently transferred Boyd to Luton Town.

MARCH 4TH 1936
U.C.S.W. v CITY RESERVES.

Although the University College were defeated on Wednesday by Exeter City Reserves by 7 goals to nil it was not until the second half that their defence cracked. At half-time the score was 10, the College having put up a fine struggle. Bamsey and Pope were Exeter's best players in the first half. Tett, the Reserves' centre-forward from the Ottery and District League, scored five goals, and Pope one. Johnson, the College right half, kicked the ball into his own goal in an attempt to clear.
