Good Friday Football

BRISTOL CITY 2 EXETER CITY 1

March 26th 1937

Yesterday was not a "good" Friday for Exeter City, who defeated at Bristol by the odd goal of three, lost ground in the struggle for League safety. The City's nearest rivals, Walsall, Newport and Aldershot, all won. Exeter would have done so if the attack had shown average ability and resource.

EXETER CITY

On the run of the play Exeter did not deserve to lose both points. The outstanding player in the City side was Young, who was easily the best half-back on the field. Angus was also in good form. Exeter's goal was scored by Owen from a penalty. Haycock and Booth netted for Bristol.

SOUTHERN LEAGUE:
CITY RESERVES v YEOVIL.

Fifteen hundred spectators at St James's Park saw a game of many fluctuations between the City Reserves and Yeovil. The feature of this game was the opportunism of Halliday of Yeovil and Urmson of Exeter. Each had three goals. Keane netted the decided just before the finish. Tom Scott played a brilliant game for the City.
Result:-
City Reserves 4
Yeovil and Petters 3.

  • A lot of players are changing clubs this season. Among the latest transfers are those of McArdle from Carlisle United to Barnsley, and Vic Hoyle (amateur forms) from Dawlish to Torquay United.
