Dennis was playing in the Plymouth Combination and spotted by Billy Kellock , who recommended him to Plymouth Argyle. He had 18 months with the Home Park club, playing 30 times in their combination side. 

Dennis a half-back, was signed from Plymouth Argyle in July 1951. He played for the reserves in the Southern League throughout 1951/52.

In the summer of 1952, he transferred to Ilfracombe.
