Sanders was an amateur footballer, he played for City reserves, he made his debut on the 12th of October 1907 against the 15th Brigade.

He played for the Old Exeter Amateurs against the Old City Pro's on the 12/9/1935 in aid of Exeter City Supporters Club Funds.
