Nick, younger brother of Matt Grimes, was an under-18 player between 2014 and 2016 and played against Plymouth Argyle in the Devon St Luke's Bowl on 5 April 2016.

After leaving City, Nick studied at Hartpury College and played for Slimbridge and Cinderford. Moving up the leagues - and returning home to Exeter - Nick then appeared for Truro City, Tiverton Town and Taunton Town.

Nick captained Taunton’s 2021/22 Southern League Premier South championship-winning team and continued to play for the club in National League South during 2022/23 often partnering one-time Exeter City trainee Jake Wannell in defence. Featuring again during 2023/24, Nick left Taunton after the club's relegation in April 2024.  

As of early 2023 Nick was working in financial services in Exeter.
