On the 23rd August 19966 Exeter City released 17 year old goalkeeper Peter Davis from his contract as an apprentice. Peter, from Plymouth made several reserve team appearances but never had a first team break, His contract, in fact was due to run out in November 1966, but there was a mutual cancellation in order to give him a better chance of finding another club, Barnstaple Town were believed to be interested in signing him.

Clive Martin wrote in March 2023.
"The late Peter Davis was with Argyle as a youth keeper before City and eventually became one of our top referees and football league linesman. One of the best I officiated with. Incidentally, his brother Richard was a former Argyle, Southampton, Bristol City & Barrow professional player before playing for the successful Falmouth Town side 1974-78 Western League Champions, he signed for Bideford Town in 1976 I believe, and managed Plymouth Argyle youth in the '80s."
