Lee was a trialist from Frickley Athletic. He played in the reserves, he made his debut with Adam Stansfield, in August 1998, playing at left back.

He had earlier been with Nottingham Forest.
In 2012 he returned to Frickley as a player/coach for his 3rd spell at the club, by the end of 2010/11 season he made over apperances for them in all competitions and was still playing in 2015/16.
