Nick Murphy was a 20, centre back, who was on trial at City after being released by York in September 1986.

Nick started his career with York City on their youth training scheme in 1983, he signed a professional contract a year later, making his first team debut in January 1986 against Hartlepool in the Associate Members Cup. 

After his trial at Exeter he moved to Tadcaster, where he was born to play for Tadcaster Albion.

He was tragically killed in a car crash, involving three vehicles on the A659 in North Yorkshire, on 1 September 1998. Nick was only 31 years of age.
