Biographical Text

Scoring five times in his nine league games for Exeter City in the late-1920s Ted Wade arrived at St James' Park from New Brighton having had an earlier unproductive spell with Burnley. He later played for Aldershot Town in the Southern League.

Ted started his career with South Shore of the Fylde League before signing for Burnely in 1922. Failing to make the grade at Turf Moor he returned to the Lancashire coast to sign for Lytham of the West Lancashire League. Given another Football League opportunity at New Brighton in 1924, he netted 24 goals in 72 Third Division North outings for the Wirral club before heading to Exeter City in the summer of 1928.

Making his Grecians' debut in a 1-0 defeat at Southend United in the second game of the season, he returned to the City side for the game against Norwich City on 29 September when he scored twice in a 3-1 win. Repeating his feat in the following week's 3-2 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion, Ted didn't find the net in any of the next three league games and didn't feature again April 1936. Appearing just three more times for the club, he scored against Watford on 10 April ahead of his release at the end of the season when he signed for Aldershot Town of the Southern League.
