Richard played with the under-17's in 1994/95, playing for Exeter in the Devon and Exeter Youth League and in the Western Counties youth league.

He played against Bournemouth for the reserves on the 5th of April 1995 in the Avon Insurance Combination League, having previously played for Bournemouth.
