1931
William (Harold) Godbeer

W Godbeer, from Friernhay, played in goal for Exeter City reserves in the Western and Southern Leagues. He played on the 10/10/1931 against Newport County, and continued to play throughout the season.

He returned to play for AFC Friernhay in the late 30's and was part of there Devon Cup winning side in 1936/37.

"Still in the West, take a trip to Friernhay, where the local Soccer side presented an alarm clock to goalkeeper Bill Godbeer as a wedding present. Thereby hangs a tale. Godbeer failed to appear for a Cup-tie. Reason? Well, they say that he took a cat-nap -and didn't wake up until the final whistle had been blown over an hour before!"  (From the Reynolds News)
