Steve played for Exeter City in the South West and Wales Youth League in August 1977, in a 2-0 win against Torquay United.
A few days later he scored twice at Ninian Park against Cardiff City in the same league for Exeter.

He later played for Clyst Valley and played for Clyst Rovers in 1981/82.
