Biographical Text

Winger Peter Thomas, who scored on his Grecians’ debut, had eighteen months with Exeter City in the mid-1950s. He also made a handful of league appearances for both Cardiff City and Newport County.

Peter turned professional with Cardiff City March 1953 and, having made a goalscoring debut against Aston Villa in August 1953, went on to make four league appearances for the club.

He signed for Exeter City in December 1954 and, first appearing at Crystal Palace when he again scored on his debut, played in 24 of City’s 25 league games during the remainder of the season. Scoring four league goals in that first season, Peter couldn’t dislodge Dennis Simpson at the start of 1955/56 and didn’t play until the Reading game at the end of September. Dropped again immediately he played just four more times before requesting a transfer in March 1956.

Leaving St James’ Park in the summer of 1956, Peter agreed terms with Newport County but only made eight league appearances before turning out for Bath City and Weymouth prior to management stints with Bridgwater Town and Glastonbury.
