In an Exeter City A team fixture against Honiton at St James's Park.

"John Sparrow was down from Chelsea on loan and the A team were playing Honiton at St James Park, their goalkeeper took a goalkick, it landed 10 yards inside our half and I headed it straight back into his arms.
John came up to me and said "I've never seen anyone head a ball that far"

After leaving City, David had nine years playing for Budleigh Salterton until a ruptured achilles tendon finished his playing career.

In 2020 he was living in Sidmouth, and working with John Delve for Royal Mail.
