Trott, Julie

Julie played her 100th game for Exeter Ladies in 1982/83, however this was since match records had been kept, from 1978 and Julie started at Exeter in 1973.

One of several players who had reached that milestone that season, Julie had a very good playing record which led to several club records and had played International football for Wales.

In a programme on the 19th September 1982 the following article was printed.

"Today Julie Trott celebrates her 100th game for Exeter Ladies, since 1978. Although Julie has been playing for Exeter since 1973 only match records have been kept since 1978, she is the first of several players to reach this fine achieve ment. Julie has a good playing record and has received several club awards for her dedicated efforts. She has had Welsh International honours and is an important member of the club, she has been through the good and bad times with Exeter and thinks it all worthwhile with many good seasons behind her and hopes for a few more yet."

In the Cardiff home programme in April 1983 the following article appeared:

Superstar Profile Julie Trott

Age: 25
Height: 5ft 4ins
Occupation: Chemistry Technician
Hobbies: Photography, Walking, Reading, & all
Sports
Represented the Western League, South West Region & selected for Welsh Squad.

Julie, has always played for Exeter, and I am sure would play for no other team. She has been a big part of the Exeter set-up, and contributes not only with her footballing skilis, but also with her organisation and fills the post of: Vice Secretary. In Julie's first seasons' with the Club she took on the role of centre forward, but her speed and alertness to the game found her moving out to the wing and creat- ing many quick and destructive breaks, which leave the opposition in a dilemma. This has been a good season for Julie and she has worked hard all season to keep her standards high, her game relies a lot on the distribution of the rest of the team, and this season has proved as good as any.

Now one of the more experienced players she expects higher standards from her play, and if she does not play up to her limitations she is dis- appointed.

Julie is a valuable player, not only as a team member but also as a Club member.

Julie was still playing for Exeter Ladies F.C. in 1986-87.

The following is from Rod Hawker's book
"Irrepressible Women"

Julie Trott

Julie played her football for Exeter Ladies in the 1970's and 80's and was selected for the Welsh squad to play Scotland at Douglas Park (Hamilton Academicals' ground) on 26th April 1981. As a speedy winger, Julie came to the attention of the Welsh team manager of the time, Sylvia Gore, through a recommendation from Julie's club team manager, after he discovered she had been born in Cardiff. Unfortunately, Julie spent the game as a substitute as the team's manager had decided to forfeit wingers for the game, but in Julie's own words,

I was disappointed, but I felt more sorry for the girls who did not even get a chance to put on a shirt.'

The teams drew 0-0 and as a result she missed out on the chance to play in a 'Mini World Cup' that was in the process of being organised by nations with female football teams.

Whilst she attended further training sessions, she sadly had to drop out of the squad simply as a result of not being a car-driver and struggling to get to the venues. Her experience offers yet another reminder of how difficult it was for players to progress in the game at that time.

Julie played her 200th game for Exeter LFC on the 13th December 1987, against Abbeydale in a WFA Cup 4th Round match.
