Ellis began her footballing life with the Exmouth Amateurs under-8s, she made rapid progress through the youth ranks and was eventually spotted to join the Somerset School of Excellence and, at the start of the 2010/11 season she joined Plymouth Argyle, whilst studying A-levels at Exeter College. She had previously played for Cullompton. 

From there Ellis was offered a four year scholarship at the University of Alabama to study for a degree in Biology from 2011 to 2015.

In 2011/12 Ellis played 20 times for the University, as a defender, and the following season played 18 times scoring once. In 2013/14 played another 17 games scoring one more goal.

In August 2015, Ellis played and scored for Exeter against Port Talbot in pre-season friendly before joining Yeovil shortly afterwards.

She played for Yeovil until December 2016, then Cardiff City where Ellis was an ever-present, moving to Oxford for the following season. In 2017/18 she was captain of the Oxford team.

After 4 months out of the game she played for Keynsham in November 2018.
