Exeter Theatre Fire

On the way to our next grave of interest we pass the memorial to the great Exeter Theatre Fire of 1887. The Theatre caught fire during a performance and 186 people died and are remembered here by this memorial designed by the prominent local sculptor Harry Hems. As a result of the review into the fire safety precautions were introduced around the world including the provision of safety curtains.
