Biographical Text

An England Schools and Youth international, Sparrow was an apprentice at Chelsea, then signing a full contract with the Stamford Bridge club in August 1974, going on to make 69 league appearances, scoring two goals.

Sparrow had made his league debut for Chelsea as a 16-year-old in a 3-0 win at Burnley in March 1974. He had a loan spell with Millwall in March 1979, adding a further seven league outings.

Sparrow signed for Exeter City in January 1981 for a fee of £10,000, making his debut for the Grecians in a 5-0 defeat at Portsmouth the following month.

He was the regular left-back in the team throughout the 1981-82 season, but then lost his place to Keith Viney the following season.

He left Exeter on a free transfer in the summer of 1983 and signed for Sutton United.
