Charlie was an Exeter City trainee between 2020 and 2022.

In April 2020 the club wrote that "we are delighted to announce the signing of striker Charlie Hanson, from the Charlton Athletic FC academy, who will join us as a Scholar at the start of the 2020/21 season".

Charlie was released by Exeter City in May 2022 having played at Bideford on loan during 2021/22. While in North Devon Charlie scored three times in ten games.
