Biographical Text

Josh Coley, a winger, joined Exeter City from Maidenhead United in June 2021 and was part of the squad that won promotion in 2002. After a loan spell at Harrogate Town during the following season Josh left Exeter to sign for Sutton United.

Although he was born in Hertfordshire, Josh grew up in York and was on York City’s books when he was at school. He then moved back to the Stevenage area and later spent two years at Hitchin Town before signing for Norwich City at age twenty in July 2018. After playing for Norwich under-23s Josh spent time on loan at Dunfermline Athletic before being released in January 2020.

After a short stint at Stotfold, Josh signed for National League Maidenhead United in July 2000 before moving to Exeter City for an undisclosed fee in June 2021. He signed a two-year contract with the Grecians and was to wear the number 31 sponsored by the 1931 Fund.

Josh made his first-team debut as substitute against Walsall on 2 October 2021 and started his first game three days later against Cheltenham in the Football League Trophy. He scored his first goals against Bristol Rovers in the Football League Trophy on 10th November 2021 and made his first league start against Carlisle on 20 November 2021. In what was to be a promotion-winning season Josh started four league games and came on another fourteen times as substitute.

In September 2022 Josh moved to Harrogate Town on loan, played 11 league games (plus two FA Cup games scoring once) and returned to St James Park in January 2023. Appearing in just five more games for the Grecians, Josh made his final appearance for the club at Ipswich Town on 29 April 2023 before signing for Sutton United in July 2023 for an undisclosed fee.
