Match 40
April 30th 1914
Plymouth and District League
Millbrook Rangers (h)

Thursday, April 30th.

Exeter City Reserves completed their Plymouth League programme on the above date, at St. James's Park, with a match v. Millbrook Rangers, kick-off six o'clock. The visitors arrived late, but were well represented, while the City fielded a very mixed combination.

Millbrook were the first to become dangerous, and Gosling put in a good shot almost from the wing, following which the City mounted a long series of attacks without being able to score.

Orr was crippled, and retired, and shortly afterwards Greenaway scored with a shot which Roberts allowed to pass through his hands in simple fashion. Loram subsequently made an excellent save from Gosling, who was very fast and clever. Brooksbank sent a foot wide after Whittaker had put him through.

At half-time the City led by one goal to nil.

A good centre from the touch-line by Gosling was covered well by Loram, and Staples shot wide from an easy position. Following the City's rush to the other end Whittaker headed past Roberts to put the Grecians two up. Later on Walker was injured and departed the field, leaving Exeter with three forwards. Shots were rained in on the City goal by Staples, Fowler, and Gosling, but Loram was in his best form. The Spooner Cup was on display at the ground.

Reserves:- Loram; Harding, Marshall; Lewis, Rose, Evans; Walker, Greenaway, Whittaker, Brooksbank, and Orr.

Millbrook:- Roberts; Horswell, Rounsevell; Downs, Lakeman, Wright; Williams, Fowler, Gosling, Staples, and Bath.
