An amateur with Exeter City who made his debut for the club at home to Plymouth Argyle Reserves in a Plymouth and District League fixture in December 1905.
As a young man, JMB was a stonemason. He was apprenticed at 14 in Tavistock, but later moved to Exeter to work for Harry Hems.
He was married in 1910 and moved away from Exeter but by then ECFC had risen to great heights and left the amateurs behind!.
