Biographical Text
Born in 1895, Casson spent some time with Blyth Spartans as a leader of their attack, but his Football League chance came when he signed for South Shields in 1920-21, where he netted two goals in nine appearances.
He then joined Grimsby Town in 1921 and added a further five goals in in 19 league starts.
Dropping into non-league football with Pontypridd, where he scored over 50 goals, he was given another league opportunity by Exeter City when he signed for the Grecians in the summer of 1925.
Casson made his debut for City against Bristol Rovers at St James’ Park in September 1925 and scored in the 3-0 win.
Despite a good start at Exeter, and scoring two further goals, he soon lost his place in the side. Casson was to return to South Shields in 1926, but was not successful during his trial period with the club.
Walter died in 1965.
