Clive Whitehead was towards the end of a distinguished playing career when he played a crucial role in Exeter City’s title win.

He made his debut in the opening day victory over Doncaster Rovers and was an almost ever-present in the side that season, netting five goals in the process.
A move to Yeovil Town followed in October 1990, as Clive took up the role of player-manager, but he was dismissed from the position in April 1991.
