A long-serving defender during the club’s early days in the Football League, Bob Pollard played for Exeter City between 1920 and 1926.  An Arthur Chadwick signing, he joined the club from Plank Lane and left to play for QPR. A stockily-built right back’, he was first-choice for about half of his time at St James’ Park and a key personality as the Grecians became established in the League. He later played for Cardiff City and Saint-Étienne.

Bob played for his local club Platt Bridge United for two seasons before joining Plank Lane in the Lancashire Combination in 1918.

Exeter City gave him his Football League chance in the summer of 1920 and, after making his debut against Luton Town in April 1921, Bob made seven appearances during the remainder of his first season followed by 24 in 1921/22. Now becoming a fully-established member of the side he made 39 league appearances in the next campaign, 19 in 1923/24 and 41 and 40 in the two subsequent campaigns. Missing the second-half of 1926/27, Bob made 23 appearances that season ahead of 36 in the next campaign and 17 in his final term for the club to bring his total number of league appearances for the Grecians to 246. 

Bob left Exeter to sign for Queens Park Rangers in the 1929 close season adding a further 56 league matches to his tally before playing for Cardiff City in 1932/33 prior to signing for French club Saint-Étienne.
