Walter Betteridge played twice for Exeter City during the club's first season in the Football League in 1920/21. He joined the club from Boscombe and later played for Maidstone United and Crystal Palace.
A son of a farm hand from near Romsey, Walter had played for Southern League Boscombe when he impressed in a pre-season trial with Exeter City and was awarded a contract ahead of the club’s first season in the Football League in 1920/21. Making just two appearances, the first coming against Newport County on 2 October 1920, he was released at the end of the season.
Appearing next for Maidstone United he subsequently played for Peterborough & Fletton United before returning to the Football League with Crystal Palace in 1928 where he made one league appearance. Walter went on to play for Loughborough Corinthians ahead of living out his life in Peterborough where he died in 1979.
